Huntington Rolls Over
Garden City (C) 9 -0
The only thing
pounding harder than the Mother's Day rain storm were the shots on goal by
the Huntington Offense. Huntington dominated all phases of the game in a 9-0
shut out that brings their record to 3-2. By games end, the Garden City
players were shaking their heads at the skills of the home team and
exhorting their players to "play with heart like those guys do."
After Pat Coffey won the opening face off, Huntington scored on successive
goals by Ryan Brady and Pat Wright. The quick scores took the fight out of
the Garden City team that played a soggy game in the face of the unrelenting
Huntington Offense and the swarming defense. I
On the offensive end, weeks of practice paid off in the form of precise
offense sets featuring attack men Pat Wright, Ryan Brady, John MacCallen,
Zack Moss and Kevin Marek. The midfielders excelled, jump starting the fast
break and thwarting offensive threats by Garden City. Pat Coffey played a
big game, Ryan McDonough and Chris Mahoney matched speed and skill to
overcome their opponents.
At the defensive end,
Derek Northcoate achieved the first shut out of the season (and second shut
out of his career). Liam Jones stood out for his fierce play, including
three plays where he bounced off multiple Garden City players as he charged
the ball up field. Chris Potter swarmed around the field while the
alternating duo of Steven Nigro and Pat Cronin ensured that Garden City
never gained a foothold on the offensive end of the field.
