The visiting Huntington
6th Grade scored two quick goals and never looked back as they defeated a
tenacious Freeport team 6-4. Moving the ball well, the Huntington offense
scored first on a fiery shot launched by John MaCallen followed shortly by a
bullet that Ryan Brady shot into the corner of the goal. Freeport
fought back, but never got any closer than two goals thanks to the hard
hitting and smart play of the Huntington team. John MacCallen regained his
touch, scoring twice as did the mighty midfielder Pat Coffey with Chris
Mahoney adding a sixth goal.
Liam Jones and Chris
Potter keyed a tough defense that out hustled the larger Freeport attack men
aided by creasemen Steven Nigro and Patrick Cronin. Jones and Nigro
displayed a willingness to sacrifice their bodies putting hits on the
opposition. At the offensive end of the field, Pat Wright, John MacCallen,
Ryan Brady and Kevin Merrick caused havoc all day with their unrelenting
offensive barrages. The Huntington midfielders used an irresistible
combination of finesse, muscle and speed to outplay the home team,. Pat
Coffey won the majority of his face offs, Chris Mahoney, Luke Nowrocki, Ryan
Macdonough and Luke Foster all displayed feisty feats of skill and
dexterity.
Freeport scored two late goals to
make the score respectable, but Huntington proved too much in controlling
the game from start to finish. The victory brings the Huntington record to 4
and 2 with a make up game against Farmingdale immediately following the
Freeport game.
