The Huntington Team ventured to Seaford for the second
time in a month to take on the Seaford A team. In a hard fought and physical
game, the Huntington team prevailed due to their perseverance and a stout
defense. Seaford scored first on a broken play
where a midfielder wound up with a one on one shot against Huntington's
goalie, Bobby O'Brien. Yet the team did not grow disheartened. The defense
held firm and the offense kept taking their shots on goal. While the Seaford
goalie matched goaltending excellence with Huntington's Bobby O'Brien, the
relentless shooting finally yielded a goal on a long shot by Willie Coffey.
The score stood tied at one all at half time.
Huntington scored early in the third quarter,
once again from a white hot shot by Willie Coffey and an equally searing
shot by attack man Peter Kingston. The team's entered the fourth quarter
with Huntington holding a slim 3 - 1 lead.
Once gain, goalie Bobby O'Brien proved his
mettle, blocking and deflecting shots all game long. Crease defender Jamie
Cronin set the tone for the defense early with a bone shattering body check
that sent a Seaford attack man flying. Louie Puca flew around the filed,
knocking balls loose with his stick checks. Kenny Stopoli and John O'Connor
each made key plays at the defensive end of the field.
The fourth quarter saw Seaford mount one final
charge, scoring once to bring themselves within one goal. Huntington would
not be denied. Midfielders Jack O'Neil, Duncan Murchison, Teddy Blyskal and
Nicky Saputo covered the entire field hounding their opposition. Saptuo made
several key runs as he took the ball and dashed from deep in the Huntington
end to lead the attack again. Attack men Adam Pomper, John McGrath and
Jack Wallace flew around their opponents and Nicky Smith added a late goal
to seal the game. Seaford did score one last goal in the waning minutes, but
Huntington emerged victorious with a 4 -3 win.
